Great Islands to Visit – The Seychelles: Show Off Those Tankini Swimming Suits!
Summer is here and it is time to go island cruising once again! This lovely Republic, located in the western Indian Ocean, actually has 115 islands to choose from! The inner islands, known as the granite islands, are really the economic center of the republic.
Seychelles was first settled in the late 1700′s, by the French. When Napoleon lost at Waterloo, the Seychelles ended up in British hands. It gained its independence from Britain in 1976 and is now a republic, within the commonwealth.
Today, Seychelles is home to a variety of cultures, including African, European, and Asian resulting in a grand variety of traditions to enjoy. Creole music and dance are popular, with a mix of drum, violin, and guitar.
When visiting this island, one can sample cuisine from Creole, to the Orient, to Indian, Chinese and Italian. The national staple is rice and this is service alongside a variety of foods. National favorites include grilled fish or octopus based in a crushed chilli, ginger and garlic sauce. Local fruits like golden apple and papaya are always abundant.
Seychelles has almost half of its landmass set aside for national parks and reserves and has a great degree of protection in place for the environment and the various ecosystems supported by that environment. Rare species of flora and fauna are located here. This includes the largest see in the world – called the Coco-de-mer as well as the jellyfish tree that only has eight surviving examples left on the planet.
The smallest frog in the world lives here, along with the heaviest tortoise. Visit for your next vacation and you see the only flightless bird in the Indian Ocean!
The island paradise is also home to the world’s largest raised coral atoll. Want to see the original site of the Garden of Eden? Well, it is rumored to originate in Seychelles and is called Vallee de Mai.
Seychelles is located outside of the cyclone belt, in a time zone whose working hours overlap with those of major financial centres. In addition, it has excellent sea and air connections with Europe, USA, Asia and Africa make it an excellent place to conduct business. You are already planning your next staff meeting, aren’t you?
Even though you can get away from it all in this beautiful area of the world, Seychelles also has a very efficient telecommunications system together and extensive facilities available at its harbour, Port Victoria, so it really is a great place to do business.
